Vote Results - Tackles and Interceptions

All,

The results for the two votes we recently took are below:

QB Interception -1pts. to -2pts
Out of all votes received, those voting "yes" outnumbered those voting "no" by only one vote, thus there is not sufficient support to make this change. We will continue keeping interceptions at -1pts.

Counting Assisted Tackles into Total Tackles
There was unanimous support for this change in all votes, thus it will be implemented from now on going forward.

  1. I'm pretty sure the standard for off-season rule changes was majority vote, so the INT change should take place even though it was only a slim majority, should it not?

I still have no idea why anyone would vote no to that. Why should an interception be -1 points and a fumble be worth -2? INTs are just as detrimental to a game as a fumble.

  2. Josh,

While you may be right in that we discussed it in a conversation somewhere, I can't find that in writing anywhere. If you can, let me know.

    Thanks,

  3. It's not in writing anywhere that I can find, but 2 of the 3 commishes remember that to be the case. It wasn't just a random conversation we had, it was what we decided would be the standard for making changes. Do you not remember having a different requirement for in-season changes (unanimous support)?

  4. I am not confident saying that I remember it that way. I'm not saying we didn't agree to it, but it's more injurious to the league if we make a decision right now without it having been somewhere in writing, where expectations were clear, instead of relying on two guys' memories.

  5. Well, I don't really care about the INT rule change since it's a relatively minor thing (though I do think it should be changed and disagree that it's in any way "injurious" to the league especially considering a majority want the rule change), but it should be put into writing now so that we don't have the same issue if we want other changes next off season. My feeling is that since I'm confident that a majority vote is the standard we set for off-season changes, and David also believes this to be the case, and since you are simply unsure whether it was or not, this should be the standard on any issues going forward. In-season rule changes require a unanimous vote, off-season rule changes require a majority vote.

Being in politics is like being a football coach. You have to be smart enough to understand the game, and dumb enough to think it's important.
