Week Three Statistics

  1. By the way, is there going to be something like this posted that shows total points for winning the weekly categories? Last year you would post this but then we would also get another post showing who has the most points from the weekly 5 point categories.

I must be horrible at saying what I mean cause that sounds confusing.

  2. Nevermind... I just saw the little tab at the top of the page.

  3. Are we not counting Tackle Assists as half a tackle? I only ask cause if we are then it must be a major coincidence that everyone has a whole number for total tackles. If we're not counting tackle assists, why not?

  4. We made the decision last year to not count tackle assists.

  5. Why not? They're legitimate tackles that we get Fantasy Points for. Why would we count them in our matchups but not in the Stat Categories?

  6. Shoot, I meant to bring up assisted tackles in the preseason meeting and completely forgot about it. I tend to side with Johnny on this one. Not sure why they shouldn't count.

  7. Is it too late to reconsider? I *gasp* agree with John Freeborn and Josh...?

(That can't be right, I have no idea how I could type that sentence. Oh, I get it. It's 3am and I have a fever, ignore me.)

  8. I think a reason we decided not to count them was that they'd have no likely effect on the outcome of the winnings, everyone's total tackles would go up by a certain percentage, and the winners would be unlikely to change.

One reason not to count them more personal to me is that I'd have to go back to the last three weeks and redo the sheets.

  9. Josh, I'll take that as a vote, we'll see what David thinks.

  10. I'm fine with the change, although I do think the difference would be negligible as Pat said.

The only way I would vote to change a rule midseason, is with unanimous support of everyone in the league. This situation would not make a huge difference as tackles haven't been a statistical category yet.

So, my vote is no, without unanimous support because we have already started the league.

Personally though, I do think it will be negligible on the outcome of the statistical categories.

  11. I don't think it's negligible.

For example, this week John H had 17 tackle assists and Ben, not counting one player left to play in MNF, only had 5 tackle assists. If we're counting each tackle assist as half a point that's a 6 point difference for just one week. When it comes to the Tackle Categories at the end of the year that will really add up a LOT.

Plus, if/when it's a Weekly Category it will make a difference. For example, John H's total solo tackles this week was 29 and Ben's total was 30, but if you take John H's tackle assists into consideration then he wins by 5 instead of losing by 1.

  12. Week to week, there may be some outlier changes. Overall on the year, John H, will still be leading the league in tackles, to this point, regardless of whether we count assists or not. There will be some weeks where, so and so might randomly beat someone else in tackles because of this, but there is NO WAY to predict that. There is no skill, rhyme or reason to think that you can predict who will have the most tackle assists week to week, and no one will base a decision as to who to start based on this marginal statistical category.

We could also make a case for return yards getting more points(Pat) mid season, some people see them as valuable as other ways to gain yardage and really, other than arbitrary distaste for it, there's not really a good reason not to. A case can be made.

The fact is, this is how we decided to score things before the season, these are our rules, lets play by them.

Again, if the league unanimously is on board with a change, I'll be happy to give my vote, but if one person has a problem(even if it is because they would fall behind in the years tackle leaderboard) I would vote no.

  13. I obviously don't have an argument that it would never make any difference whatsoever, as John has given a clear case that this week, if the category were tackles, it would've made a 5pt difference.

However, I am also in agreement with David that predicting these things is a vague process. If you draft/pickup a tackle-prone you can reasonably predict you'll get tackles. Adding Tackle Assists as an additional stat to keep does not increase or decrease any one team's propensity to accrue tackles as much as not having it. The difference is largely the same as it is now.

  14. John, Ben still has one player left, that makes a HUGE difference. Jerod Mayo is certainly capable of making 5 tackles.

Either way, Tony Barriere JR. had 41 solo tackles as well, so neither of them would have won tackles anyhow.

  15. LOL I retract my former statement about there being a difference.

  16. After more consideration I agree that we should leave it as is since that's how we started the season.

  17. Alright, and for the record, I don't think it was an irrational request, I just didn't see it as "value-added".
